Functions of behaviors
One job of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in our ABA clinic is to analyze why a behavior is happening and teach the child a more appropriate way to meet that need.
Function of behavior means the reason why someone is engaging in the behavior. We want to know the reason before deciding on how to manage the behavior.
In the field of ABA, there are 4 main functions of behavior: attention, access/tangible, escape, and automatic.

Look for our next post in this series that will go in further detail about these functions.
