LLA Spotlight: Carrie Thompson
Carrie has been a Physical Therapist with LLA Therapy for 9 years. She currently practices at Coventry Local Schools, Rittman Exempted Village Schools, and Manchester Local Schools. Carrie became a physical therapist because she loves helping others! By helping students improve their gross motor abilities within the school environment, she believes this also has a positive impact on the student outside of school during extracurricular activities, sports and time spent with family and friends.
What Is Your Favorite Part About Being A Therapist?
I love watching a student’s improvement on their skills and seeing how proud they are of themselves when reaching a goal. I do LOVE playing with toys also!!!
What Is Your Role In The Schools As A Physical Therapist?
I assess and identify children that may have a delay in gross motor skills and/or their ability to access their school environment safely and effectively. A team approach is then used to determine a student’s needs for improved success at school. Another essential part to my role is communicating with the school staff and parents, regarding the student’s gross motor needs and progression.
How Did You Discover Your Passion For Working With Kids?
After 10 years of working in Long Term Care, God led me to this job opportunity. When speaking on the phone with my now supervisor for the first time, she mentioned that her son was a teacher in one of the school districts available. What are the chances…..my son was in his class! I knew this was fate and never turned back!
