LLA Spotlight: Sabrina Mottershead
We have amazing therapists at LLA and want to showcase them to you! This week, meet Sabrina Mottershead!
Sabrina is a Speech-Language Pathologist who has been with LLA for 3 years! She serves clients at Ashland City Schools and the Medina clinic. She became a therapist after seeing the positive impact a speech therapist made on a close family friend of hers, and she couldn’t imagine doing anything else after that. Her favorite part about being a therapist is working with kids and really connecting with them. Letting them know through her actions and interactions with them that she truly cares about each of them!
Share a success story!
I think each client has something uniquely different about them, and seeing them grow and achieve success in their own way (sometimes it’s their skills that grow, other times it’s simply their confidence) honestly brings me so much joy every time – so it’s hard to pick just one story! If I had to choose, I would say that seeing the confidence grow in one of my hearing loss patients was unbelievable. She was brave and courageous in trying out the techniques we came up with together to help repair communication breakdowns. The amount that her confidence grew was unbelievable and inspiring, and her communication skills increased as a result too.
Let’s get to know Sabrina better!
Would you rather have pizza or tacos?
This shouldn’t even be a question! PIZZA duh! Dill pickle pizza from Ohio Pie.
What is your therapy passion?
Working with kids who have language deficits and finding ways to help generalize newly acquired skills into the classroom.
How did you discover your passion for working with children?
A close family friend of mine suffered a very unfortunate stroke, leaving him with locked in syndrome. I witnessed the SLP work with him and his family early on and saw her provide him with ways to communicate with his wife and kids. It was truly a light in such a dark time and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else after that. I went back to school and became an SLP!
What do you do in your free time?
I like to work out, take my dog for walks, and hang out with friends and family.
What is your favorite team?
Toronto Maple Leafs
What is the funniest thing a kid has ever said to you in therapy
“In 12 years I’m going to be a lot taller….and you’re going to be much MUCH older”
What is your favorite sport?
I love to play soccer, but I love to watch hockey
What is your best advice for kids?
Go play outside and have fun! Being a kid is awesome.
What is the best therapy advice you have ever received?
Be flexible. Might seem simple, but it goes a long way in the therapy world and life in general.

Brampton, ON Canada
