LLA Spotlight: Samantha Kelland
We have amazing therapists at LLA and want to showcase them to you! This week, meet Samantha Kelland!
Samantha is an Occupational Therapist who has been with LLA for 2 1/2 years! She serves students at the Education Alternative Schools and clients at our Fairlawn, Hudson, and Medina clinics. She became a therapist after teaching children in learn to swim programs as a high school student. She wanted to continue to teach children how to grow and learn through meaningful activities. Her favorite part about being a therapist is seeing children overcome aversions to engage in messy play, the smile when they accomplish sticking their hands in paint or shaving cream and being successful!
Let’s get to know Samantha better!
Describe your role at LLA:
I travel to several school buildings in the Education Alternatives program, and then provide outpatient occupational therapy service in the afternoon at 3 different clinic locations.
What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy reading, gardening, and spoiling my two orange cats.
What is your best advice for parents who are embarking on a journey with therapy with their kiddo?
Communication is key! I always tell parents to let me know what they want to see for their child. Therapy is tailored for each individual, and I want to work on what is important to the child and their family.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Anywhere with a beach!
What is your best advice for kids?
I tell older students I see in the schools that they have the power to determine if they will have a bad day or a good day; they are in charge of how they feel and act.
Are you an Early Riser or Night Owl?
Early riser
What is your Favorite Inspirational Quote?
“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter” – e.e. cummings
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Allow children to try first before helping, failure leads to learning

Summer
