LLA Spotlight: Wendy Harner
We have amazing therapists at LLA and want to showcase them to you! This week, meet Wendy Harner!
Wendy is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who has been with LLA for 3 years! She serves students at Happy Day School and Norton Schools. She became a therapist after being a one-on-aide for a student and the therapists who came in commented how they thought she would be a good therapist. She researched OT and fell in love with the core values of OT. One of her favorite things about being a therapist is when something works and a student smiles. It makes her day every time!
Let’s get to know Wendy better!
What is your therapy passion?
I am passionate about helping multiple handicap students. I love helping them be more independent and making them smile.
What is your favorite color?
Blue
What is your favorite movie?
Princess Bride
What do you do in your free time?
Play violin, crochet, spend time with my family
What is your best advice for parents who are embarking on a journey with therapy with their kiddo?
Trust the process. What might not work the first time could in time. Some kids just need to go at their pace, but with time and effort a therapist can help find what makes your child special and build on it.
What is your favorite inspirational quote?
“Even broken crayons still color”
Would you rather have ice cream or cookies?
Cookies – I love snickerdoodles
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Find time to do the things you love to do, just for yourself
What is the funniest thing a kid has ever said to you in therapy?
While working in a special needs classroom we were going over hygiene. We had flowery soap and most of the girls liked it, but the boys said they didn’t want to smell like flowers. We passed around a bar of Irish Spring and asked what it smelled like. One boy raised his hand and said “Leprechauns!!!!!” We lost it.
What is your favorite season?
Fall
Tune in to our next Spotlight to meet another one of our wonderful therapists!
